- The 2008 Ohio Family Health Survey estimated that 18.9% of Franklin County adults and 4.5% of children lack health insurance. The percentage of Franklin County children under age 18 without health insurance was 11.8% (31,571 persons) in 1998 and 7.3% (20,137 persons) in 2004.
- The 2008 Ohio Family Health Survey reported that Ohio's child uninsured rate was 4.0% in 2008, down from 5.4 in 2004. For Ohio adults ages 18-64, the uninsured rate had increased from 15.0% in 2004 to 17.0% in 2008.
- For adults, the rate of health insurance coverage increases with increasing age. Nearly all Franklin County adults aged 65 or older have health insurance coverage according to the 2008 Ohio Family Health Survey.
- The 2008 Ohio Family Health Survey reported that blacks have a lower rate of insurance coverage than whites. Hispanics (of any race) have the lowest coverage rate; more than half of all Franklin County Hispanics lack health insurance.
- According to the 2008 Ohio Family Health Survey, 84.2% of uninsured adults ages 18-64 had incomes below 300% of poverty and 88.0% of uninsured children lived in households with incomes 300% of poverty.
