The following are key points from the data in the tables and graphs found on the “Data” tab. The “Sources and Notes” tab provides additional information about the data

  • Blacks are disproportionately represented among HIV and AIDS cases diagnosed from 2005 to 2007.  Although blacks comprise 19.3% of Franklin County’s population, they represent 37% of recent HIV diagnoses.
  • In Franklin County, females account for a larger proportion of recent HIV diagnoses among blacks than among whites. Females were 4% of HIV cases reported in whites and 16% of blacks from 2005 to 2007.
  • Franklin County AIDS deaths trended upward from 1999 to 2004, dipping slightly until 2006 before rising to a three-year average of 42 per year.
