The following are key points from the data in the tables and graphs found on the “Data” tab. The “Sources and Notes” tab provides additional information about the data.
- In 2005–2007, black males in Franklin
County had the highest death rates for heart disease, cancer,
stroke, and diabetes. Rates of death for black males from heart
disease and cancer were 116 and 112.3 per 100,000 greater than
the Franklin County rates, respectively.
- In 2005–2007, white females in
Franklin County had the lowest death rates for all the leading
causes of death except CLRD. The rates of death from heart disease,
cancer, and CLRD were lower for black females than for white males.
- Males (both black and white) had higher
than the county average mortality rates for heart disease, cancer
and CLRD in 2005-2007.
- For all leading causes of death except
CLRD, blacks of both genders had significantly higher mortality
rates than same-gender whites in 2005-2007.
- Franklin County had 301 deaths due to
homicide in 2005–2007. Of those, more than half (56.1%)
were black males. White males comprised the second largest group
of homicide deaths at 26.4%, followed by black females (10.6%)
and white females (6.3%).
