The following are key points from the data in the tables and graphs found on the “Data” tab. The “Sources and Notes” tab provides additional information about the data.
- For FY 2008, the Franklin County emergency shelter system included 417 beds for single adult men and 97 beds for single adult women. The system also had capacity for 120 families with children.
- The shelter system served 786 families (2,689 persons in families) in FY 2008. The mean family size for households in a shelter was 3.4 and the average age for a head of household in a family was 30. At intake, about 17% of heads of household were employed. The tvast majority (73%) of these individuals were black.
- The average age of the 3,452 single men served by the Franklin County shelter system in FY 2009 was 43 years. The average age for the 1,046 single women served was 40. About 68% of single men and 64% of single women had zero income at the time of intake.
