The following are key points from the data in the tables and graphs found on the “Data” tab. The “Sources and Notes” tab provides additional information about the data.
- In 2002, there were 21,300 housing units in Franklin County with severe or moderate problems with their physical condition. The majority of these units were in the city of Columbus, which had 17,800 units with physical problems.
- Of the 21,300 units in the county that had physical problems in 2002, 55.9% were rental units with moderate problems, 17.4% were rental units with severe problems, 16.0% were owner units with moderate problems, and 10.8% were owner units with severe problems.
- In 2002 in Franklin County, 73.2 % of units with physical problems were rental units, compared with 80.1% in Columbus.
- In 2002, physical problems with rental housing were primarily within Columbus, which had 11,400 of these units compared to 11,900 throughout Franklin County. Problems with owner-occupied housing were more proportionately split between Columbus and suburban Franklin County.
