The following are key points from the data in the tables and graphs found on the “Data” tab. The “Sources and Notes” tab provides additional information about the data.
  • In 2008, Franklin County Children Services completed 5,741 investigations related to child abuse and 3,974 related to child neglect.  Children Services found that over half (54.4%) of child abuse cases were unsubstantiated, as were over one-third (34.7%) of child neglect cases.
  • In 2008, Franklin County Children Services provided in-home services or out-of-home care to 28,643 youth under age 18 in Franklin County.  Among these children, 4,328 received family services through namaged care partnerships.
  • The number of Franklin County children in protective placement increased from 2,406 in 1996 to 4,982 in 2008, a 107% increase.  Among the children in protective placement, 3,130 were in foster home care.
