The following are key points from the data in the tables and graphs found on the “Data” tab. The “Sources and Notes” tab provides additional information about the data.

  • The average yearly jail population in Franklin County correction facilities was 2,315 persons in 2007, after a decrease of 2.9% from 2006, but 16.8% higher than 2000.
  • Of the 26,165 commitments to Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) facilities in state fiscal year 2009, 8.4% (2,203) were from Franklin County. Commitments to state prisons from Franklin County decreased by 1.8% between 2008 and 2009, but were 15.2% higher than in 2002.
  • In state fiscal year 2009, the following were the crimes for which offenders were most frequently committed to state prisons in Ohio: drug possession, 14.0%; trafficking in drugs, 11.4%; burglary, 7.6%; theft, 7.6%; robbery, 4.2%; and receiving stolen property, 4.7%.
