- The number of violent crime offenses
in the City of Columbus was 5,929 in 2008. Since 2000, Columbus
has witnessed a low of 5,929 violent crimes in 2008 and a high
of 6,505 violent crimes in 2002.
- The FBI’s Uniform Crime Index Program
indicated that the violent crime category decreased in the United
States by 1.9% between 2007 and 2008. In Columbus, the number
of violent crimes increased by 7.1% during this period.
- The FBI's Uniform Crime Index reported
other Franklin County cities had the following numbers of violent
crimes in 2008: Whitehall, 190; Reynoldsburg, 94; Grove City, 57; Gahanna, 30;
Bexley, 28; Westerville, 26; Hilliard, 26; Dublin, 18; Groveport, 13; and Grandview Heights,
